The Perks of Being a Wallflower-Stephen Chbosky
“And in that moment I swear we were infinite.”
I’ve always been fascinated by books that don’t lie parallel to the common format of story telling, if there is a definitive one anyway. So I loved the fact that this novel was written in the form of letters, and I especially love that they are sent to someone (us) that is never identified in complete detail.
I mean, wouldn’t you love to write letters to someone who doesn’t really know you? A stranger? It seems so freeing in a way, to confess so much to someone who you’ll never actually speak to. Maybe that’s just me though.
I could go on and on about the themes this novel presents to the reader, but honestly…it’s just about growing up. It’s about learning about yourself and the people around you. It’s about coming out the other side of the deep dark tunnel and just being present in your life. Good and bad. It’s such a beautiful thing.
I read about it in almost every book, and yet I still struggle living up to that idea. Easier said than done is such a cliche but I know it’s based in reality. Charlie is an endearing character, lovely and kind-hearted. He’s kind of a lost soul, but he is so genuine. I feel content at the end of it.
